Science-based training means training that is not only compliant with the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior’s positions and policies but training that is proven effective through scientific studies. Part of this means I am continuing my education and utilizing the most current, up-to-date research on dog training.

Here at the Collective Canine, we utilize reward-based training, which means creating cooperation and communication through positive reinforcement in lieu of punishment during training. Our goal is to create not only a strong, trusting relationship between you and your dog but create a training plan that is effective long term.

In addition to the continuing education courses I take each year, I am certified through the IAABC as a trainer and through the Karen Pryor Acedmy’s puppy start right program, as well as the International School for Canine Psychology and Behavior as a level 4 canine trainer. I have been working professionally with dogs for about 8 years now.

Because we offer home based boarding, we have limited space available. We only take one Board and Train at a time, but will take an absolute max of 3 dogs at once. This means during peak season, we may have one board and train and 2 regular boarders. However, this is dependent on the temperament of the dogs boarding. More often than not, we only have a max of 2 dogs at once. This is to ensure we can provide adequate physical exercise, mental enrichment and to create the most comfortable possible environment for the dogs staying with us.

While we do everything in our power to keep dogs safe, if something were to ever happen the first thing we do is contact YOU. All dogs staying with us must have an emergency contact. If we cannot get into contact with you, we will transport your pet in a crash tested kennel to VEG in Lynwood and contact your emergency contact. For those who are traveling out of country or in an area that may make them unreachable, we do require an authorization letter to approve medical treatment.

All client dogs sleep either in a crate or an x pen, depending on what they are most comfortable with. While we do have central air, which keeps things warm in winter and cool in summer, we also have ryobi battery powered fans for those who run extra warm.

All boarding dogs get a daily walk around the neighborhood, or if appropriate, a trip to a local park. We also have a fully fenced in yard for play, a doggy pool for summer, and if your canine is dog friendly, we have plenty of playmates too!

Your dog must be up to date on age appropriate vaccinations (DHPP, Rabies if over 14 weeks, and Bordatella) and have a negative fecal within 10 days of the start of the board. We recommend your dog get lepto as we do field trips to local parks. Additionally, we do require all dogs be comfortable in some form of containment whether that be a crate or x pen.
